The coaches at this clinic aim to help triathletes learn several key ingredients
for the swim portion of their triathlon races, both open-water and in-pool.
This clinic is ideal for athletes new to the sport of triathlon, as well as for
more experienced triathletes who wish to brush up on their technique.
·
Efficiency.
Learning to stroke with minimal wasted effort, and increase power, saving leg
muscles for the bike and run portion of the race.
·
Breathing dynamics
so that swimmers can get good breaths and good bilateral sighting.
·
Straight swimming
so that swimmers can increase the number of strokes they can take between
sighting for course markers.
·
Sighting:
How to see the course markers without interrupting stroke flow.
·
Turning techniques
for rounding makers and for effectively using the walls for pool swims.
·
In-water and beach starts.
·
Swimming in a crowd.
We will have the entire Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center facility for our exclusive
use, so we will be able to work without lane lines and more open practice space.
We will spend most of our time in the water practicing these skills, but we will
take breaks to warm up, snack, and learn from Carol's open water experiences
(which include her English Channel swim and her swims around Manhattan Island).
·
Swimmers should bring several towels, snack food and drink, goggles, and
(optional) fins and/or snorkel.
·
Some swimmers find that wearing a swim shirt to keep warm during extended water
time makes them more comfortable.
Instructors:
